[comp.sys.amiga] Finding correct settings for a hard drive

jafo@miranda.UUCP (Sean Reifschneider) (01/10/91)

I just got a Maxtor LXT-200S SCSI hard drive, and was needing to know how you
find the correct settings for the MountList entry for that drive. I've got it
set up now so that I should be getting just over 200MB out of the drive if I
use all the cylendars.

The way I understand it, it doesn't really matter what you tell the system
about the drive, as long as the totals don't exceed the number of blocks
available on the drive. The only reason for tuning the entries in the
mountlist file is for some optimization.

My old drive (Seagate 277N) I got the specs by calling the place I got the drive
from (Great Valley Products), and asking. I can't do that this time since I
ordered it through an IBM place. So how do I find out. The manual for the
drive lists all the specs you could ever want. I just don't know how some of
them relate to the mountlist entries (like MaxTransfer).

Thanks,
Sean

From the desk of Sean Reifschneider. Isn't Amiga UUCP great? Thanks Matt.
