[comp.sys.amiga] Info on processing ICON images

clemon@lemsys.UUCP (Craig Lemon) (01/05/91)

I have recently axquired a 2320 and was considering changing my
system defaults to a HIRES environment. The only problem is that I feel
that the ICONs used in the Amiga system (meant for non-interlace) look
really stupid in interlace. What I want to do is half the width of all my
ICONs to make them look good as well as open up more Workbench space. I
had my hopes set that some of the PBMPLus programs would do the job for me
(icontoppm, ppmtoicon, ppmreduce etc...) but I can't seem to be able to
get them to work when I FTP individual binaries from 130.70.40.3 through
BITFTP. The complete package used to be on abcfd20 (ab20) but it seems to
have disappeared as well. Why I want to use the PBMPlus series is that I
can write a script to use with 'eo' or something to automatically re-do
all of the ICONs presently on my system. Does anyone know where else PBMPlus
can be found or of any other programs that do what I need?

([130.70.40.3] = pc.usl.edu)

BITFTP has this nasty habit of padding with nulls the files it
retrieves. So, to get around this problem, I've rearranged the way
Amiga PBM Plus is stored in the anon-ftp area. The bin subdirectory
now contains a Zoo file for each of the programs, which contains an
executable file and its corresponding documentation. The doc
subdirectory now only contains documentation of a general nature. If
anyone has further problems with this, please let me know via e-mail.

Since PBM Plus doesn't currently support Amiga icon files (icontopbm
and pbmtoicon are for Sunview icons), you'll need to find something
that can convert them to/from a format that it does support.

Followups directed to comp.sys.amiga.graphics.
