I have a question concerning the GVP 3001 accelerator board. I just purchased one through mail order (which hasn't arrived yet), but the only one I could afford was the stripped down 68030 with no FPU or 32-bit memory ($649 total). Now, I know that the board is almost useless without the memory, so I want to upgrade it as soon as possible. First question, is the memory contained on another 'piggyback'' type board? If so, where is the best place to buy one (with 4megs on-board or preferably the new 2meg version) and about how much would the board and memory cost? The guy I bought it from (Go Amigo) said I was stuck with the bare board unless I bought the whole accelerator 'KIT' that runs about $1400, but I think (hope!) he is wrong. Thanks. Bryan

That's a dumb move. > First > question, is the memory contained on another 'piggyback'' type board? Yes. It's proprietry to GVP. If you don't buy it when you get your A3001, you ain't going to get one from anyone else but GVP (as far as I'm aware) > The guy I bought it from (Go Amigo) said I was stuck with the bare board > unless I bought the whole accelerator 'KIT' that runs about $1400, but I > think (hope!) he is wrong. Thanks. He is right. I spoke to someone at Go Amigo, got that advice, and then spoke to GVP themselves, and got the same story. You cannot buy the 32bit board with 0 memory, it has to have 4Mb, and upgrading costs a fortune. Without the FPU, you're accellerator is going to be mediocre anyway. I think you wasted your $650. Unless you pay to upgrade your board to something usable. To make you think a little - I purchased my A3001 with 68882 and 4Mb of memory, running at 28Mhz, for $A3,000 ($US2400) here in Australia. And that was CHEAP! It was going for $A6000 ($US4800?) a few months before. I investigated getting the board direct, but Customs charges would have blown me out of the water, and my Mastercard limit is much less than $A2000. I sold my A2620 for $A800, so my board effectively cost me $2200, and it's marvelous. I put in a 30Mhz crystal/oscillator, and got another 5% improvement (hey, 5% more of something that runs at 1100% of normal Amiga speeds isn't to be sneezed at!)
