It's been my experience on small boards which went from few message sections that had lots of traffic to more specific sections that had few message traffic. The point being that you can kill a lot of conversation by getting too specific about where messages should go. Does anybody else feel that putting up seperate newsgroups for almost every aspect of Amiga computing is going to kill a lot of future conversation on here? I was happy with a hardware, general, tech, and announce section. Of course this isn't a limited BBS system by any means, but I've seen it happen time and time again. (make that comp.sys.amiga.misc - see followup line). OK Thomas, this is important note #1... *********THAT'S THE POINT******** OK, now here is important note #2... *********IT'S ALREADY DONE******** We discussed it for weeks. We announced it to the world. We all voted. It passed overwhelmingly. It's a done deal. I agree, there will not be as much traffic here. That is a good thing. In fact, that was our objective. -- _. --Steve ._||__ DISCLAIMER: All opinions are my own. Warren v\ *| ---------------------------------------------- V {uunet, sun}!convex!swarren; swarren@convex.COM

To Tom Limoncelli (And any other Amiga user who takes every little chance they get to bash other users of this newsgroup): What is your problem? Your childish remarks and K-grade cuttdowns do nothing to enhance the conversation of the Amiga newsgroups. I've noticed a trend in the Amiga conferences. People reply to messages with the intent of ripping the other user apart, instead of informing or addressing the original questions in the message, probably to boast their ego. There are a lot of so called "experts" on this newsgroup. Insecure users are probably trying to justify their imagined image by bashing others whenever possible. Grow up a little. We all own Amigas here, and with messages like that, I wouldn't expect too many new computer buyers to opt for an Amiga. As far as your unprevoked attack on Cleveland Free-Net goes, turn your nose up at somebody else. Nobody here is interested. By the way, do you even know what Cleveland Free-Net is? By your comments I would expect that you think it's users are all related to the same college. Again, please leave your crude comments to somebody who likes to take part in childish wars, like Mark. I am here to take part in the discussion of Amiga related topics, not to be used as a punching bag for an immature Amiga user who wants to look big in front of his friends. To whichever faction thinks that there are too many new Amiga sub-groups, I add my puny vote. If nothing else, it adds dozens of extra bytes to thousands (maybe even millions?) of '.newsrc' files :-) On the serious side: I also think that traffic could adversely be affected by a splitting of newsgroups. As I see it, for two reasons: 1. There will be people that will refrain from posting because they are no longer sure as to _where_ to post. 2. There will be people bashing others because they posted something to the "incorrect" group which, in turn, magnifies (1). Oh well, those I my $.02 worth....
