A few months back I posted a note stating that my A500's keyboard was locking up with the caps lock light flashing. The solution was: replace the keyboard. I had this problem too. I called a service center. They told me it is a inherent problem with the 500 chip set. The recommended solution is as you did. Turn it off for a while. Although it usually only takes five to ten miniutes for mine to work again.
