[comp.sys.amiga] testing

kfried@misdevelop.UUCP (Ken Fried) (07/29/87)

this is a test to see if this message posts on sys.amiga

keithe@tekgvs.TEK.COM (Keith Ericson) (07/31/87)

In an earlier article Ken writes:
>this is a test to see if this message posts on sys.amiga

Hi, Ken -
	Welcome to the group!

First of all, this is NOT meant as a slight on Ken,
or on anyone else for that matter! OK? OK. Now, on
with what I want to say...

For general knowledge, and merely using Ken's message as a
springboard: messages can be cancelled, too. At least, with the rn
news-reading package it's trivial. When the poster of an article
reads his posting (which means that the message did, in all
liklihood, actually get posted) s/he can hit C (shift-C) and rn
will send out a (kind of magic) message that deletes the posting
and relieves everyone else from having to read it. So, you'll have
verified that the message got posted without bothering anyone else
with it.

		Yours for easier news-reading,

		keith

PS - Please save your "why post this here, it's not about amiga's"
posting and flames for /dev/null. I'm just trying to help out, OK!?

UHP@MSSTATE.BITNET (University Honors Program) (04/10/88)

I just wanted to see if i could get a note from bitnet to comp.sys.amiga
also i wanted to comment on V1.3 of the OS i just got my new amiga world
today and the main subject is 1.3 it said that these R the changes in
the new operating system... and they were looking at a beta copy so i
guess its pretty reliable.
 Three new devices:
                   1) recoverable ram disk.
                   2) AUX: allows a dimb term to run a seperate task
but i think i saw this in PD somewhere b4.
                   3) Speak: like the say command but it becomes like the
prt: device... you can copy a file to it and it
also has new logic (sounds more real)

 six new commands:
                  1) MORE let you look at text files.
                  2) CMD redirects prt: output to a file
                  3) Savescreen Saves screen in IFF format
                  4) Xicon lets you execute batch files from WorkBench
                  5) Setfont lets you set something besides the topaz font as
                             the default system font
                  6) PIPE (only from the cli) lets you redirect output of one
                          program directly into another program.
also an improved run command is included.
One thing i thought unexpected is that the FFS will only work for the
Hard Drives and MOUNTed drives (not the Amiga 3.5" drives)
anyone from CBM want to comment on this?

Also microsmiths Fast Fonts are used to speed up the display, and lots
of new printer drivers R in there... (Just put your nose up to the jar...
its in there... its all in ther...) Spaghetti Sauce Commercial
oh well... If i forgot something dont sue me and If you need a tax
deduction I am open for contributions. ;-)

This is a test but as long as I'm out here anyway I might as well ask
this question. I am currently using Matt Dillon's wonderfull UUCPv1.03d
However there is one small problem with anews in that I can't post followups
or send email from within anews (like I could with rn on the UN*X system I
used to use. It is a minor inconvenience but does any one know of a
for anews that allows this?? Thanks for letting me use the bandwidth.
Scott
