[comp.sys.amiga] Amiga 1500

I was sitting around reading my copy of AMIGA FORMAT magazine
(an excellent British production which I read for game info) when I
came across news on the just newly released A1500 in the UK. It seems
it was released in time for Christmas and is selling well.

It looks pretty much like an A2000 with 1 Meg of RAM and two
Internal Drives. Specific stats weren't mentioned, but I suspect it's
just an A2000 with an extra drive and a new nameplate. It was selling
for around 999 pounds.

Personally, I think it sounds like a great idea. Does anyone
know what differences between the A2000 and A1500 exist and if it will
ever see the light of day in the states? Dave? Anyone?

Also, I saw a rather neat 512K Mem Exp/SCSI Controller combo from
Commodore UK that fit into the underside of the A500 which pretty keen
too. Will that ever hit the states?

If you ask me, Commodore UK seems to have it's marketing act together
judging from all the Amiga 500 Combo packs and free software
incentives they offer.

Well, my understanding is that the A1500 is a purely British creation,
intended for the markets there. It's essentially just a stripped down A2000
with two disk drives; no hard drive at all. It's still got all the same
capability, mind you, but it's a cheaper "bare bones" system. The idea is
that a lot of people want expandability but can't afford a system with a
hard drive (all of the Amigas are MUCH more expensive in Europe), so C= came
up with this idea instead. The only other difference I'm aware of is a
new sticker that says "A1500" on the front....

splendid living will return to a grey civilization. But that will only come
true because a few Men will believe in it, and fight for it, and fight in its
name against everything that sneers and snarls at that ideal..."
