[net.general] followup on System V for educational institutions

arnold@gatech.UUCP (Arnold Robbins) (03/27/84)

Here we go again:

I talked today to ATT in N.C., to the lady who handles educational licensing
of UNIX and UNIX-related products. Here is the straight info, and I apologize
for my previous posting, which was based on incorrect info given to me by
the operator who answered the phone there.

1) The bit about getting a letter to them before April 1 allowing you to
upgrade to Release 2 for free was totally bogus. Sorry. I'm just as disap-
pointed as you are.

2) If your System V license was signed by them between 12/1/83 and 3/31/84,
you may upgrade to Release 2 for $400. Otherwise the upgrade is $800.

3) If you upgrade to Release 2, the Documenters Workbench comes with it.
Otherwise, you have to license the Documenters' Workbench separately.
Educational cost of Documenters Workbench: $1500. Non-educational cost: $4000.

4) Ditroff is available by itself, for an educational cost of $400. This
is an older version; a newer, better version comes with Documenters Workbench.
That is what you should pursue.

5) Documenters Workbench contains: troff (device independant), nroff,
sroff (fast nroff), otroff (old version, apparently), plus macro packages
(mm and man) and picture drawing programs.

6) They are not on the Usenet.

I am sorry if my previous posting screwed anybody up. I hope that
posting the straight info will help.
