I am posting this for a friend: My com2 is on a Quadport-AT (from Quadram). It's connected to an ADDS Viewpoint. It seems to be working properly as a Unix terminal. It also seems to be working with pc-vt into the VAX through the lan. The problem is: when I try to use it directly from DOS, it doesn't work. I issue the mode command, then do DIR > com2. I get an error message Write fault ..... on device com2. Com1 works fine. The same thing happens in DOS 2.1 (as well as 3.2). Mark Harris Appalachian State University

I think this is the classic problem of not receiving the proper modem control signals at the various rs232 pins. Now some boards allow you to use jumpers to force certain signals true or false and I suspect that your COM1 port is this way and COM2 does not have CTS and DTR true.
