A few months ago, I posted a query about how to use a color monitor with the composite output of a CGA card. Not surprisingly, I received a number of responses informing me that the composite output of a CGA (or clone) IS a color signal. I have finally discovered that yes, it is a color output, but only in 40col mode. As soon as I switch to 80col, the display will only appear in B&W. The resistor network that someone kindly suggested does not work, and I cannot afford the > $500 for the RGB to composite converter that someone else suggested. My question now is, is there a way to make the CGA put out a color signal from the composite output jack while in 80col mode? I must admit that I am rather dubious that this can be accomplished, but I am loathe to get rid of a perfectly good, not too old, CBM composite monitor. This monitor is especially convenient since it has two switch selectable inputs. While I am waiting for a long compile, I just switch the input to the C64 and play Zaxxon while I wait :-) As always, any help would be appreciated. -- (Randy Horton) allegra| hplabs | topaz |-!pyramid!ranhome!randy decwrl |
