I just purchased an Epson Equity I. A friend of mine says that Central Point Software makes a board ("Copy to PC Option Board?) that is a must. Does anyone have experience with this product? Any problems using it with the Epson? Also, I'd like recommendations on a good surge protector. Thanx

Central Point's Copy Option Board is highly recommended. It appears to work on anything except a disk with a laser hole. (There are sometimes ways to get around that.) The board was designed for the IBM PC, of course, but I have used it only on an AT&T PC 6300. I don't know if it works on an Epson machine. If the Epson is a close clone, it should work. Call up Central Point in Oregon and ask them.

I don't know whether the board will work with the Epson: It should, but the supplied cables might not be sufficient. I like the Copy II PC Board because I have to support a lot of different disk formats. The ability to duplicate foreign disks and to examine disks track by track, and alter data and clock bits, is pretty useful. Mike Berger ihnp4!uiucuxc!clio!berger

Regarding the Copy Options Board: I have had one for some time, I did a beta test. It seems to work well, and it copies some software that the software copy programs, such as COPYIIPC will NOT copy. It makes fast backups and I do all my copying with it, even if it is just a data disk. It also verifies as it copies. I have used one in a IBM PC and an IBM Portable. They have a new half-sized card that will work in a variety of different computers. I think the main difference is some of the IBM-clones use a different disk drive cable (without the twist) and thus have slightly different drive selects. joel sampson smu computer science & engineering
