Have you had the NEC V30 all along? It's possible that your disk device driver has software delay loops, which now run faster than before, necessitating retries.

It may be a combination of the controller card and the processor chipo from what I've been told. Check and see which Rom version your controller is: F019 or F022. The F022 is an autoconfig chip that "MIGHT" have problems at high speed and or with a non-ibm system. I was told that by my distributor when putting the controllers and Seagates into Zenith 158s with their dual speed 8088-2 chips.
