[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Just how many MS-DOS archivers are there?

I've been a bit overwhelmed by all the various MS-DOS archiving programs out
there. I've lost track of the number of programs begining with the letters
"arc", and they don't all appear to be compatible with each other. Would
someone who knows about all these programs be kind enough to enlighten me?
