[comp.sys.ibm.pc] ATI Ega Wonder info request

As I type this I am looking at an ad in BYTE magazine for an
animal called the EGA Wonder card from ATI. It advertises
"Any Software, Any Monitor, Any Time", and the ad shows software
for EGA, CGA, Hercules, and 132 columns running on an EGA
monitor, a TTL monitor, and a CGA monitor. Anyhow, this
intrigued me because I currently have a CGA setup on my PC, and
this LOOKS like a way to upgrade to EGA capabilities on the
cheap. I talked to a friend of mine who's a dealer... he never
heard of the card before and laughed at the very IDEA of doing
EGA-type things on a CGA monitor...

Anyway, has anyone out there in net-land had any experience with
the EGA Wonder card? Is it all it's cracked up to be?

I have read articles in PC Week about the EGA Wonder. It looks
like a great video card (although I havn't seen an actual demo
of one yet). The EGA Wonder accomplishes EGA mode on CGA monitors
by using a technique called interlace. This is where every other
video line is drawn during each refresh cycle. The downfall to this
is that you can occasionally see screen flicker (especially when
there is lots of "white" on the screen).

As for price, I have seen it advertised for $299.00 in PC Week.
If anyone purchases one of these video cards, please post a review
of it tested on various monitors.
