Note: If you reply to this message, be sure you reply to the correct address (in the Reply-To: field). It seems inews on my normal machine is a bit broken and I have to borrow this account to post. If you are using my MORE.COM program (posted around Dec 20 '86), be aware that it has a serious (but not deadly) bug. I didn't notice it originally because I never used the program on a machine with >512K memory. It seems that the Turbo Pascal maxavail function returns a negative number on machines that have >512K memory (or so I guess). My program did not expect this, and it's programming was flawed because of it. I noticed it the first time I ran it on a 640K machine. I have fixed the bug and the new version will be posted ASAP. Look for version 1.2. For those of you with 640K machines, you can get an idea of what I intended the program to do by running anything that has a shell escape (like PC-Write). Usually these programs eat enough memory to put you below 512K. Symptoms the program exhibits: 1) program will not reprint the screen after displaying help 2) bacwards scrolling behaves very, very strangely, usually displaying the last line displayed on the screen 25 or so times. Sometimes it displays lines of garbage, other times the lines are blank. Again, the fix is coming soon. Sorry about that--it was an unforseen error that I should have checked (and will in the future). For all of you who tried the program on smaller machines, thanx for your replies. I had literally tons of email waiting for me when I returned. Generally, people loved it if it worked. Well, those of you with busted copies should watch for the newer version. It really does work. I tried to read two executables from vnews the other day and use them on my PC. Both crashed. I tried less and solitaire. Is there some special way of fetching executables out of vnews? If there is, could someone please tell me? Thanks Larry R. Portsmouth, RI. Does a bear shit in the woods? Not if he lives in a zoo.
