Thanks. > > peter Probably not the answer you want, but EDLIN (you remember -- that awful editor that comes with DOS) accepts commands from stdin, and can be used as an ersatz SED. I know it works 'cuz I actually did something this way. (Yes, I'm perverse, I know it.) Clayton E. Cramer
