I read an ad in PC Magazine (Vol.6 #3 - Feb. 10, 1987 - Page 312) about IMS-286 products. IMS (Intelligent Micro Systems) is based in San Antonio, Texas. They have several configurations with varying prices, depending on hard drive size and mono vs. ega. The system itself has the following features : Intel 80286 running at 10 MHz 6 to 10 MHz switchable clock speed Phoenix BIOS 512K RAM up to 1 MB on motherboard 1.2 MB floppy drive Dual floppy/hard disk controller AT-style keyboard Clock/calendar with battery back-up 200 watt power supply It has a $1035 price tag. Add the following : 70 MB fast access (28 ms) MiniScribe hard disk SpeedStor partitioning software Enhanced graphics adapter video card 14" high resolution EGA color monitor This has a $2695 price tag ! I talked with them yesterday. It has 8 free slots (6-16 bit, 2-8 bit). They say you can plug in an IBM keyboard and it will work. The EGA card can be traded in for a top-of-the-line VEGA EGA card for an extra $190. The 1 MB upgrade is $70. Does anyone have any experiences with this product ?? It sounds like a very good deal. I prefer to get people's experiences before I do mail order business. Thanks for any info you can provide. Disclaimer : I do not, nor ever have, worked for the above-mentioned company. -- :-- Paul : :UUCP: ...!{decuac, rlgvax, seismo, verdix}!vrdxhq!bisanabi
