[comp.sys.ibm.pc] news

One problem with this medium: There is so much here that I tend to
ignore some very important information until three months later when I
need to know it and all traces have vanished from the NET. (Raise your hand
if this has ever happened to you.) This stuff is all being sent to that
great database in the sky -- to which we are denied access!)

The query that prompted this is being posted separately. I would like
to raise the issue of whether something couldn't be done to mitigate the
transitory nature of information posted to this newsgroup. Experts might
comment on what would be needed (in the way of keywords supplied by authors,
subject classification codes, etc.) -- and whether the creation of a data-
base of news articles would be feasible. [Reflections on the transitory
nature of human existence itself should, however, be directed to net.Source.]
