We bought a Toshiba laptop T3100 and were oooing and ahhhing over the nifty plasma display (640 X 400) when the hard disk crashed without warning. Is this a known problem with these beasties or did we just get a lemon? We had planned on buying several, but now I'm not so sure ... -- Ed Nather Astronomy Dept, U of Texas @ Austin {allegra,ihnp4}!{noao,ut-sally}!utastro!nather nather@astro.AS.UTEXAS.EDU

Our Sales force is using them on the road and at shows for customer demos and word processing. So far we have had 0 problems in either hardware or software. Compatibility has been perfect and the display has garnered rave reviews from everyone who has seen it. I imagine you got a lemon. Toshiba has promised rapid replacement of defective units, so you should contact your dealer or Toshiba. Based on our experience, I would highly recommend the Toshiba. The only drawback is the slowness of the hard disk, but that hasn't caused anyone to complain yet, so it isn't too much of a problem unless you're planning anything very disk intensive. -- Scott J.
