Recently there have been sporadic notices in this group of problems with Adaptec RLL controllers with Seagate drives. Some of the problems appear to come from using ST225 drives. The ST238 is apparently a specially selected ST238, certified suitable for use with the Adaptec 2070a controller, to give 30 MB on the otherwise 20 MB drive. However, some people who are using ST238 drives with the 2070a controller are reporting problems. We have an in-house maintenance facility providing service to our faculty, staff, and students. The facility is also seeing some problems with the RLL encoded 30 MB disk drives. However, we have a new hunch we'd like to check out. Accordingly, if you have a Seagate ST238 (not 225) and an Adaptec 2070a controller, we'd like to hear from you. What interests us is whether *other* equipment installed in your machine is a factor. For example, one person with trouble has some gadget installed under the ROM, and a big RAM disk board. So, we'd like to collect success stories and horror stories together with a *complete* configuration of your machines. Please e-mail, rather than posting, and we'll summarize in about two weeks.
