Does anyone know of any spelling checking which (like Turbo Lightning)
check words as you type them, and beep and offer corrections, except
which will work with editors in graphics mode, such as MS Word? (Word
can be started up in text mode for which Lightning will work, but then
you lose some of the wysiwyg features.) Or, does anyone know of a way
to make Lightning work in this case?
A plus would be small size, e.g. dictionarys stored as multiple hashes
instead of explicit word lists.

Sorry, can't tell you anything about Lightning, but MS Word 3.1 differs from 3.0 chiefly by including a version of the Word Finder spelling checker. Word Finder is also available separately. I've used it in its separate mode and it works fine, especially for synonyms. Word Finder is not notable for small size. I think it's hashed. The smaller dictionary provides 90,000 synonyms, the bigger one 220,000. The smaller is 163K bytes, the bigger 325K. It's fast enough from RAMdisk, but it may be substantially slower from hard disk (I haven't tried that).
