NASA PLACES FIRST ORDER FOR CRAY-2 [LLL where are you ? pl]

MINNEAPOLIS, April 26 -- Cray Research, Inc. announced today that it has
received an order from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to
lease computer systems valued at approximately $27 million, including the
company's new CRAY-2 product.

The CRAY-2 will be installed by the Numerical Aerodynamics Simulation (NAS)
Program at the NASA-Ames Research Center in the third quarter of 1985....
....NASA's CRAY-2 will have 64 million words [not bytes, pl] of MOS memory.

....Developed under the direction of Seymore Cray, the company's founder,
the CRAY-2 is a four-processor system.....

....The CRAY-2 employs a UNIX-based operating system, a departure from the
operating system used in the company's current products....

....It is expected to offer performance six to 12 times greater than the
CRAY-1... ....so on and so on....
