<------ munch munch -------> After a long absence from the BBS world, I recently got back into it a little and found that GT had gone from version 3.1 (which I had used only a few times) to version 11.0. I figured that in the year which had elapsed, the few bugs I had found would have been fixed, but alas, there are two things which truely disturb me. Since most of my "on-line" time is to the VAX running ULTRIX at work, the vt100 emulation mode is of prime concern to me. Problem 1: the biggie.... I like to define the background to be blue and the foreground grey for use with my PCjr. The moniter is, shall we say, pitiful. The normal white on black is unbearable after 10-15 minutes. Other good color combinations are blue on grey and amber (brown) on black. Anyway, the problem is that after UNIX (I say that because I remember the same problem when I communicated to a VAX running sysVr2v2) sends the "turn off character attribute" string (ESC [ m) or (ESC [ 0 m), not only does inverse video or whatever was turned on go away, but also all color. I am left with white on black. I saw that someone else was having the same problem some time ago on this newgroup, so I doubt that it is the fault of the PCjr. Would anyone care to comment? I have never programmed the video portion of the PC, but it seems that when the (ESC [ 0 m) is received, the current character attributes should be cleared, then the color attributes turned back on. Problem 2: In vi, when Opening a line (using the "O") command, the text that I input writes over the text existing below. This is just an annoyance, since the ^L brings it back. Any comments? Now this is interesting....I received a spurious signal just now that turned on the "echo print" mode...where the screen contents are constantly dumped to the printer. When I toggled it back off with the "fn echo" command, my text is coming out grey on blue again. Strange. In closing, I just want to say that for Bulletin Board Systems, GT is very nice. However, as a "real" vt100 terminal emulator, it falls just a little short. All things considered, I'll be sending out my $35.00 shareware registration fee this afternoon. -- Tom Mackey (206) 342-1805 (wk) Boeing Computer Services ....uw-beaver!ssc-vax!voodoo!tomm Everett, WA IBM: Just say "no".
