I recently purchased (through the mail) a Seagate ST-238 30Mb hard
disk with an Adaptec 2070A controller. The only additional material
I received with the purchase were a checkout sheet for the disk (which
identifies the bad sectors) and a 2-page set of instructions explaining
how to format the disk (this also contained technical data about
the controller). The vendor claims this is all that they send.
I have the following questions:
1. Should I have received any kind of registration/guarantee form
for the HD, controller, or both?
2. What about "utility-type" software? More product info literature?
3. What about parking the head (as a matter of course, as opposed to
during transportation)? I've heard that some of the newer units
automatically park the head at power off -- is this true of the
ST-238? Is routine head parking a wise thing to do? If so, how
does one determine where to park the head?
Please e-mail -- I'll summarize and post.
