[munch....munch.....munch....munch.........BURP!] About a week ago, I asked the good people on the net to send me information on Tektronix emulators on the IBM-PC. As a result of this request, my mailbox was filled to the edge of /usr/spool/mail! Thank you to all who responded. A lot of people wrote me about Tekterm2, a program which was posted to the net sometime ago. Most of them were very satisfied with it. Unfortunately, I could not use it since it requires a CGAcard, and I have a Hercules card. Below follows a summary of companies that produce Tektronix Emulators. I have not tested any of these products personally, so I can't give opinions on the performance. The list is not sorted, so the first product needn't be the best. -- Kees PS. The fact that IBM's own Tektronix emulator is at the bottom of the list *is* significant....... ------------------------%< cut here >%----------------------------- TEKTRONIX EMULATORS =================== Grafpoint 4340 Stevens Creek Blvd San Jose CA 95129-1102 TGRAF-05 : emulates 4105/4107/4109/4010/5115/vt100 price : $?? ----------------------- KEA Systems Ltd #412 - 2150 W.Broadway Vancouver British Columbia V6K 4L9 CANADA ZSTEMPpc : emulates 4014 price : $99 ------------------------ MicroPlot address unknown telephone : (800)338-0333 use touchtone to enter IDcode 766 8501 PLOTDEV : emulates 4014/vt100 price : $39 ------------------------ General Micro Systems P.O.Box 5330 Hopkins, MN Color vt102/4014/vt220 : emulates vt102/vt220/4014 price : $89 and up. ------------------------ ATC 5711 Slauson Ave # 238 Culver City CA 90230 PC4010/4014 : emulates 4010 and 4014 price : $99 PC4105 : emulates 4010/4015/4105; support for Hercules Cards. price : $299 ------------------------ Diversified Computer Systems inc. 3775 Iris Ave., Suite 1B Boulder Co. 80301 (303) 447-9251 EM4010 : emulates 4014 (supposedly very good) price : $69 (educational in quantities of 10) and up ------------------------- International Bussiness Machines Inc. Missing from the summary list was the tek emulator by Coefficient Systems, VTERM 4010. Since they started to offer non-copy protected versions of their programs, my last objection to the software went away. I have been beta-testing various products for these people for a number of years, and I have been impressed with the care and detail that they follow up my bug reports with. The tek emulation is quite good, and they do a few editing terminal as well. There is a good macro language that does "wait for incoming string" and the like. And they support KERMIT/XMODEM/PROPRIETARY/ASCII file xfer. They are at 611 Broadway, NY, NY, 212-777-6707. Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with these people other than as a satisfied customer and beta-test site.
