[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Turning MY IBM PC compatible into a 386 or even a 286?

godawski@usceast.UUCP (Mike Godawski) (03/06/87)

Hello there. I have a difficult situation in updating my pc compatible
machine to a 286 or 386 type machine. First of all, I own an XPC TURBO
XT manufactured by XOR. I bought it from Micro Products Intnl out of
California. Anyway, I purchased a PCSG 286 speed up board and it was
not compatible with my computer's rom bios. The guys said that they'd
have to create me a new rom chip, but they kept telling me it'd take
a couple of more weeks--to make a long story short, I returned it for
a full refund.

I want to speed up my slow machine. I have an EGA and a hard disk.
I've heard that some speed up boards won't work with EGA's. Is that
true?

What I want to know is, will the speed up board (EVEREX) work in a turbo
type machine such as mine? Has anybody else out there done something
like this to speed up an XPC? I can imagine terrible things about
compatibility problems with these boards and the rom bios of my machine.
Would somebody give me some advice in this matter?

Please respond directly to me. If enough interest, then I will post
any findings to the net. Thank you in advance.
