[comp.sys.ibm.pc] strange cold boot problem

ross@isis.UUCP (Ross McConnell) (03/10/87)

I have an XT clone (640K, turbo speed switchable, 2 floppies, no
hard disk) that runs fine except for one problem. When cold booted
(and I mean cold - after a day switched off), vdisk.sys (the ramdisk
driver) will not load correctly. Although there are only two floppies,
it tries to load as drive e: . All my subsequent autoexec.bat commands
then fail because they are expecting drive c: . Thereafter, if the system
is rebooted, it loads as c: as expected. If the machine is turned off and
restarted within half an hour or so, it also loads as c: .
Any suggestions? The motherboard jumpers were set to indicate 4 drives,
but setting them to 2 or 3 doesn't seem to help.
