[comp.sys.ibm.pc] QUERY: 9600 bps MODEM / Packet Size

tslu@oliveb.UUCP (03/12/87)

I am investigating 9600 bps modems for VAX/UNIX and PC/DOS or Xenix link.
Most 9600 bps modems with MNP protocol requires a large packet (or frame)
size, around thousands of bytes. The modem throughput will degrade if
a small packet size is used.

Current Kermit has a maximum packet size of 94, new release will have
a maximum of 1000. This is not enough.

The question is which software ( ProComm ? Crosstalk ? PC-TALK ?
Microsoft Access ? Smartcom ? Smartty ? XMODEM ? .... ) provides the
biggest packet size ?

Please respond to tslu@oliven, many thanks in advance.
