<> Is there any interest on the net for starting a newsgroup pertaining to square dancing? This group could be used for posting of weekends, special dances, questions on dance locations for travelers, discussions about topics such as levels, computer squares, or drop outs. To start the ball rolling, I'll put in an inquiry: I'll be in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 6 and I'm wondering if there is an advanced or challange (up to C2) dance in the area for that night. Thanks in advance Ken Robinson

Rather than make it specific to square dancing, how about folk dance in general. I have a major interest in folk dance, particularly the British Isles variety, and there is a fairly strong contradance and English dancing community growing on the west coast. I just returned from a wild weekend celebrating the May in Seattle, their second annual Spring Dusk to Dawn Dance. -- Robert Reed, Tektronix Logic Design Systems, tektronix!teklds!bobr

A square dance group gets a yes vote from me! Assuming there is enough interest (which I would guess there to be), it would provide an ideal place to exchange info. Let's don't forget round dancing either, as it's still an important part of square dancing to lot's of people. Besides the obvious purpose of locating and anouncing dances, such a newsgroup could be used for discussions about quarterly selections, locating records, announcing new dances, etc. I guess we should see how much interest is generated here first, though, so if there are any square (or round) dancers in netland who havn't tried "postnews" yet, now's the time! o x x o Rob Greenbank o x Burroughs ASG x o

It would be nice to have a newsgroup to discuss folk activities in general (i.e. dance [square, Morris and Sword, Balkan, Scandinavian, Israeli], stories, song, ...). Second, shouldn't this discussion be in net.news.groups rather than net.general. {ihnp4,ucbvax!amd70,hpda,sri-unix,harpo}!fortune!mbr
