Hi, We're thinking about getting some new plotters for use with pee-cees. Previously, we've used 7475s which are pretty good. I'm wondering if the significantly cheaper 7440 is up to snuff (or at least pretty close) relative to the 7475. I'd appreciate it if people could send me some user comments. If the responses are interesting and timely enough, I'll summarize and post the results. Thanks in advance for your assistance. --Bill Bill Mayhew, Engineering Office Division of Basic Medical Sciences Northeastern Ohio Universities' College of Med. I have both the HP 7475 and 7440 plotters. They give pretty much identical results except the 7440 uses smaller paper formats. There are liquid ink drafting pens available for the 7475 and larger plotters that are better for producing mylar plots for printed-circuit artwork. These do not fit the 7440, but then the 7440 paper format is too small for most of these drawings anyway. If the smaller sized paper fits your needs, the extra two pens come in handy for producing office style graphics on the 7440. BTW, I had a two pen version of the 7440 earlier (7490? perhaps). It continues to work well in another laboratory. ----------------- | ___ ________ | | | / / | | Barry L. They work quite well. *However* some 7475 commands are ignored unless you have a 'graphics enchancement cartridge' installed. The only program that exhibited any problems was a custom plotting routine in BASIC written at a German branch of our company. No documentation, and the programmer no longer works for us. We couldn't even find some of the commands in the (short) list of commands in the HPGL docs we have. Most commercial software doesn't get quite that creative...
