[comp.sys.ibm.pc] MODE COM2: 1200 -- INVALID PARAMETER

mark@elsie.UUCP (03/21/87)

I'm trying to get the SIDEKICK dialer to work in my IBM PC/AT. I have
an Amazing Thing Modem (Hayes Compatible) installed in COM2:. BITCOM
and KERMIT work just fine, but SIDEKICK does nothing. SKINST has been
run and set to COM2:. As per SIDEKICK'S instructions I've tried to
run "MODE COM2: 1200,(bits I can't remember)." I keep getting back a
"INVALID PARAMETER: COM2" message. I've tried it with COM1: (my
printer) and it works fine. As I said, I know COM2: is there because I
can use it with other programs. I haven't been able to find any
reference to this problem in my DOS or AT manuals. Any suggestions
would be appreciated. Thanx,

I have seen this problem before with severaa PC clones.
The problem was that the mode command to set parameters for com2 resulted
in the messsage "INVALID PARAMETER: COM2". The problem turned out to be
a ROM BIOS problem and was solved with a new BIOS. It was interesting to
me to note that before I needed to use the DOS mode command I was getting
successful output to a plotter on com2 with BASIC. Try a new BIOS I know
