[net.general] BTU protection

richard@sequent.UUCP (05/06/84)

One thing my college roommate and I always did was to fill up the unneeded
portions of our refigerator with old plastic milk containers full of water.
Since we usually had a mostly empty frig, cooling the air just to let it
pour out next time seemed pretty dumb. Filling empty volume with water
gave us some "thermal protection." Probabaly saved us a few bucks over the
course of the years. I'd think that the water would have to be kept in
there for quite a while to make it useful, since it takes more Kcals to
cool water than the same volume of air.
