Hi Netters! A short while back, I inquired about a company called Microway which makes a FastCache-286 type board. The price of the 8-MhZ version is $449 and 12-MhZ version is $599. Since I own a turbo type machine (xpc to be exact), many of the presently available boards would not function properly in my machine. The advertisement said that their board would work in turbo type machines, AND if it did not, they'd refund 100% of purchase price. So what did I have to lose? I purchased the 12-MhZ version and it came in today. The instructions are very easily understood. You just pop out your 8088 and plug it into their board. The board runs at pc speed for 90 seconds--then it kicks itself into warp speed, thus solving the bios problems many other boards were having. Running norton's si program, I get 7.1 times speed of ibm-pc, whereas I was getting just a measly 1.7 before. Something that I did notice is that I can no longer reliably run in turbo mode (at least that's my belief). When I popped it into turbo mode, the computer "seemed" to speed up--like it aways has--the screen moved faster. The computer acted "normal" until I got into Windows and loaded a file into WRITE. I got a strange error-- Stack error--System Halted. I've never seen that one before--I think that it was caused by the turbo mode. If anybody has any insight, please let me know. I have a 60 day money back guarantee and hope that there is no MAJOR problem with compatibility between the board and my damned machine. Thanks in advance.
