I have an IBM PC/XT Portable (one of the old ones) Running PC-DOS 3.1, 640K, Color/graphics... Also have a 32M Seagate 238 Drive, OMTI Controller. Anyway. some time back a reset switch was posted to the net which involved putting amomentary switch across pins 11 and 13 of the 8284A Clock Chip. Pressing the switch resets the system. The posting also included a small DEBUG session to create a program set1234 to change the value of offset 1234 to stop the RAM test when the reset switch is pressed. Anyway the switch resets the system fine in most cases. However when I run the PARKAL command I have to park the command and then press the reset, without returning to dos or turning the system off, I get POST error 1701 ERROR.(RESUME="F1" KEY) And pressing F1 just clear the screen and hangs the system. If After running PARKAL I press Ctl-Alt-Del everything works fine. Now questions: 1) What does the error mean? 2) Is this a problem I should be concerned with or is it something to do with the fact that my drive is an RLL drive and the POST has problems? 3) If true to second part of 2) then why does ctl-Alt-Del work fine? I thought the RESET Switch with se1234 was supposed to simulate ctl-Alt-Del. Please reply to me directly or to net if you think it is of general interest.
