I am moving to from the US to a country in which the delivered currency is 220 volts/50 hertz. I am aware that it is relatively trivial to transform from 220 to 120 to be able to use some appliances purchased in the US. I am also aware that some appliances are designed to be switchable or to not care! However there are two items we have that are marked as 120 volt/60 hertz, namely IBM PC Color Display and Apple LaserWriter Plus. When I go to the local 220 volt store, the salesperson (who could obviously make money selling me more) claims that if I transform the 220 volt/50 hertz to 120 volt/50 hertz, I can plug the monitor and LW+ directly to the transformed currency. He says that even though they are marked as 60 HZ, they still work! Should I believe him? Have any of you out there in the 220/50 part of the world had any experience using these items purchased in the US? Thanks Dan Berry
