Here's a challenge for all of you out in net-land: I'm looking to acquire a single-user system to be used as an AI development environment as well as for all those more mundane text-processing, bookkeeping, and organizational tasks. Some key features: o IBM-compatible (hey, that's where the software seems to be.... but I'm open to other suggestions) o lots of storage (minimum of 1M RAM/40M hard disk) o it has to be FAST--hard disk access as well as processor speed o preferably multi-tasking o now for the killer--cost doesn't exceed a $6.5K limit The emphasis here is on AI development so the availability of tools is important. And not just Lisp, I like Prolog as well; I anticipate LARGE knowledgebases and long compiles :-}. So, has anyone out there had experience with such a system, been in the same market, or know something about the range of '386 or 12MHz '286 machines? Any suggestions?
