in article 2263 the author writes: >Did you ever see a SUCCESSFULL program running under MS-Windows ? >Most (if not all) successfull programms write directly to the screen >because of performance reasons. And Windows is that damned slow. Which I can think of several excellent programs currently on the market for Windows! First their is IN*A*VISION which is a very nice CAD/DRAW program... There is also ACTOR, which is a Smalltalk variant for developing Windows applications And my favorite is Balance of Power... a political diplomatic simulation ported from the MAC (and runs much faster under Windows than on my MAC I might add!). Aldus just released PageMaker for Windows and I know several local developers are developing Windows based applications (including a thematic mapping system)... I am happy to report that Windowing systems like MS Windows and DRI's GEM are here to stay... and probably will be an important part of future DOS's and DOS applications!!! I really hope so. I'm very impressed with it running Ventura. I know it's tough for it to compete with MS Windows, but will it be able to weather the storm? Are people still doing GEM based work? From a development point of view - how's it compare to writing under MS Windows? Thanks. David Geller Nations Capital...
