I want to write a database program generator that will use a database language and generate complete (commented) source code for the database described. Not another DBASE. This will be more like MAGIC, a program that generates COBOL source after you describe the data structures, reports needed, and draw your entry screens. In this case, the program will generate either Turbo Pascal or C source which may be edited by the programmer if s/he needs additional features not supported by DPG (Database Program Generator). It will also (ideally) be ported to as many machines as possible (isn't C helpful?) so that a database created for one machine may be recompiled on another (possibly in another language) and still run with the existing data. This allows easier upgrades for businesses changing machines. Basically what I'm looking for is a PostScript for databases. I am looking for information regarding existing software that does any of the above and people (preferably local, but all are welcome) interested in developing such a product. My initial run will be for the PC and compatibles and will most likely generate Turbo Pascal code (that's what I'm most familiar with.)
