[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Multi-sync monitors with PS/2

dragon@oliveb.UUCP (The Dragon Keeper) (05/28/87)

We set up a Taxan 770 monitor with an IBM PS/2 Model 50 with no problems.
Looks good, and works with other machines it may end up being plugged into.
Costs about the same as the 14" IBM monitor.

I have no financial interest in Taxan or IBM but I think they look good
together.

(By the way, the cable was provided by Taxan.)

I have talked to NEC and the Multisync will work also. They are
soon to provide an adapter to fit the new connector. While on the subject
I would be interested in a discussion of the new "VGA compatible" EGA cards.
How compatible can these be? They do not support the 256K (262,144) colors
that the VGA has and they don't support the 320x200 256 color mode. My
question is, why bother?
IBM announced with the PS/2 line, a Video Display Adapter that will
plug into existing PC's and AT's. This is supposed to be available in July.
It will support all previous modes of CGA,MDA,EGA plus the 3 new VGA modes.
That and a Multisync or whatever should do a nice job. Does
anyone have any more info on any of this.
I just purchased a Wells American 12 Mhz machine that I am quite happy
with. The only problem is that my Paradise Autoswitch cannot keep up with
it in CGA mode. Has anyone had any luck with other video cards at 12Mhz and
up? Also any ideas about the IBM VDA handling those speeds. I am hoping that
what we get is the same quality stuff that is in the 20Mhz model 80.
