I have two HP Vectra AT-like computers we bought a year ago. I have found them to be incompatible with certain hardware and software and would like to hear from others if they have had similar problems. First, we have not been able to make them work with a 68000 coprocessor board from Hallock Systems (PRO68). Hallock himself tried to make the board work on our Vectra and couldn't. We don't know why. It works fine on an IBM AT and Compaq pc. May be a subtle bus problem. Second, we can't get the Alsys Ada compiler to run on the Vectra, even though Alsys claims they run it on their Vectra. It crashes at seemingly random times. Hp, Alsys and we have all tried unsuccessfully to get it running. Third, the excellent HP drawing package "Drawing Gallery" doesn't run properly on the Vectras. Color is missing. In the hardware area we have had problems with the keyboards (double strikes) and small things like the card guides which may be "better" but which have to be filed off to accept certain add-on boards. Naturally I am angry at HP if the problems are due to designed-in "improvements". But they may be early versions of the machines and HP hasn't told us about certain problems. We bought the hotline phone service from HP and this has been of no help so far. We would appreciate any help on these problems. E-mail will be fine unless you think the reply is of general interest. Any opinions/emotions expressed above are my own and not the views of my employer. John Zouck -- John Zouck ...!seismo!umcp-cs!aplvax!jhz
