[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Opinions wanted on word perfect's MathPlan

sparks@batcomputer.tn.cornell.edu (Steve Gaarder) (07/02/87)

We are considering buying MathPlan, a 1-2-3 compatible spreadsheet made by
WordPerfect Corp. Has anyone out there used it? How is it different from
1-2-3? Is it any good?

There is a short review in the July 1987 issue of IEEE Software magazine.
The review does not give many details but is written by a WordPerfect user
and is favorable. I have been a very happy WordPerfect user for 3 or 4
years but have never tried MathPlan.

The main difference between MathPlan and 1-2-3 is apparently that MP does
not use the Lotus command interface. It uses the function keys, similar
to WP, to execute various commands rather than the "slash bar" menu. The
review says that MP can read and write 1-2-3 files and has some useful
features that 1-2-3 lacks. I don't think I would call it a 1-2-3 clone.
