[comp.sys.ibm.pc] PS/2 and 1Meg RAM

I just got a new PS/2 Model 50. It is O.K., but I am somewhat confused about
the memory map.

When it boots, it reports 1024K of RAM. However, DOS (as we all know) only
uses 640K. VDISK.SYS is willing to use conventional memory at 640K or below,
and it will use expanded memory at 1M or above. VDISK seems to be unwilling
to use the memory between 640K and 1024K.

1) Does anyone know of a RAMDisk which uses this "useless" 384K?

2) How is this 384K of RAM addressed? If it is linear above 640,
how does the PS/2 handle I/O and ROM compatibility with the PC-XT?
If it is not linear, where is it?

                                 Perplexed!
