[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Need Examples of files that hand PKXARC

tes@whuts.UUCP (STERKEL) (07/21/87)

In my previous "contribution" to the PKXARC discussion, I claimed
that the latest version of PKARC/PKXARC "halts" my PC at home and
my clone at work, and went into a long-winded explanation of the
test configurations and situations.

Nearly all the responses, have been of the type "it did not happen
to me--you must be wrong." Sorry, that does not wash, I have over
10 years of S/W test (mangle, and crash) experience. I am
reasonably confident that my test procedures, if not what the
average user would think of, are valid. But canning the
self-justification (do not want this to sound too much like
talk.religion.misc), I now have an embarrassing problem.

I have received an e-mail note from Mr. Phil Katz stating that his
software has new loopchecking logic from keeping it from crashing.
He also challenged me to send him the *.ARC file that would crash
his rev 3.5. I shall assume that the e-mail is valid and not a
hoax. I consider the request to be proper and positive.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of disk space, and a rigid concept of
configuration control, I periodically trash "useless" files. I
*no longer have* the "crashing" file, and I have forgotten their names.

Can someone send me a "crashing" file? The two files I tested
came from USENET and presumably were mangled somewhere in the
upload/download/UUCP/uuencode/uudecode process. If you will send
me the file(s) on diskette, I will return the diskette with my
thanks. If I can reproduce the "crash", I will forward to Mr.
Katz. (Before someone asks, I will not give out the address for
Mr. Katz. If he wanted his address public he would post instead of
sending private massages. Besides, the e-mail may just be a well-
constructed hoax.)

Thank you.
