Thank you very much for all your responses... Netnews, local BBSs incuded I must have read over a dozen responses... I shall not quote since most of them said the same thing. Of the responses I received only one was from a ZOOM 2400 XL user. A happy satisfied user, I may add. He mentioned that it handled noisy lines well but had his doubts about the utility of the plethora of features that the XL is bundled with. Unfortunately, his response came too late for me to sway my choice... Every one who replied, and I thank you all (you know who you are), and wrote about the Multitech had good things to say about it. No one specifically said anything about the 224EC internal modem, so since I thought the EC was just the internal version of the EH I decided for it. WRONG ! I got my EC and this specific piece had some bug in ROM that did not allow the modem to detect BUSY. (I had B1, &Q0, verbose mode set with X1 and all the documentation "on diskette" said (yuck)). I called support, the 800 no. and was greeted very pleasantly and referred to a tech guy. I am impressed with their support. He suggested I use X4 (undocumented). Bingo... it worked. However, the ATL5 still showed X1 !!! Buggggggy ROM he said, when I called him back... Then I got talking about the differences between EC and EH... I decided to spend the extra and get the EH. I am posting the differences between EC and EH in a separate posting... Bottom line: the 224EC is a step child for Multitech. They direct all dev. at the 224EH. For those who will not read my next posting... MNP 4 upgrade is now being shipped free for 224EH (EH only) users. Call to get yours. MNP 4 and 5 combined upgrade will be available in about a month. Again EH only !!! ...So I am gettin the EH !! ------- Keep Smiling (-:-) --Indra K.
