[comp.sys.ibm.pc] diff or grep for MS-DOS?

weber@brand.usc.edu (Allan G. Weber) (07/20/87)

Are there any programs for MS-DOS that do the same things as the Unix
"diff" or "grep" utilities? If somebody has a public domain program
that does one of these, how about sending it to me or telling me where
I can ftp get it? If there are commercial products, I would
appreciate being sent the name of the product and who makes it.

Thanks.

You might want to follow the comp.os.minix group. They have posted
PD versions of these programs, and MUCH MORE! These progs are
pretty much OS independent, and very useful!

MKS Toolkit (Mortice Kern Systems) provides diff, grep, and much much more
for under $100. You also get the Korn shell, vi, etc. etc.
You get input output redirection, pipes, and most of the UN*X goodies.
It works great. It makes MS-DOS look like UN*X, except, unfortunately
no multitasking.
