There is no further reason to read net.general. Its original purpose, the posting of timely, important announcements of general (i.e., worldwide) interest, is being assumed by the more aptly named net.announce. Want ads belong in net.wanted, path queries belong in net.net-people, complaints belong in net.flame, source listings belong in net.sources... you get the idea; net.general belongs in the twilight zone, to which I think it is rapidly heading. ---------- Nathan Meyers hp-pcd!nathanm

After reading about 40 messages with *none* of them having general interest, I've decided to unsubscribe to net.general. I just don't have the time to waste on it, and there doesn't seem to be any way to discourage irresponsible postings to it. Part of the problem is due to lack of interest by site administrators, who don't seem to care whether those with access to the net are instructed in its use. (Our own administrator came up with his own solution to net pollution: he unsubscribed months ago. I might have been the only one left here at Rand reading net.general... Well, no more.) -Ed Hall decvax!randvax!edhall
