<*> As I was a major source of the "PKXARC crashes" articles, I am morally obligated to tell you the good news: Fansi-Console crashed when PKXARC tried to "de-ARC" a corrupt file. Specifically, PKXARC looks in a specific location for the file name. If the file is corrupted, AND certain "extended ASCII" characters are there instead, then PKXARC "reports" what is found and crashes Fansi-console which cannot handle these characters. I personally know of *NO OTHER* failure modes and thus cannot make any further statements on version 3.5 of PKXARC. I found the same behavior, when I tried SEA's ARC (version 5.20). Curiously, the more TSR programs you have loaded, the less likely you are to crash. Remember, it is Fansi-console that crashes, not PKXARC. I have reported this to both Hersey Micro Consulting (The Fansi People) and Mr. Katz (the PKARC person). (I wish to thank Mr. Katz for continuing to asking questions, which forced me to get off my comfortable assumptions and test, and test, and test and....) -- Terry Sterkel {clyde|harvard|cbosgd|allegra|ulysses|ihnp4}!whuts!tes [opinions are obviously only my own]
