A question: a colleague of mine has a stock IBM p.c. containing the IBM-issue Xebec hard disk controller. He has tried to install a Seagate ST-225 in it to replace the existing IBM issue 10MB hard disk. After much fun and many games he managed to use the IBM XT Advanced Diagnostics (since when was being able to run a low-level format on a hard disk considered an "advanced" function?) to format the disk but is only able to get the thing formatted as a 10MB drive. IBM is (as everyone knows) totally disinterested in the user's plight (unless it means money for the avaricious SOB's) so he cannot get any help from there. Xebec has (starting July 1st) introduced a policy of charging via credit card for technical support to it's customers. So, given the wonderful attitudes displayed by the two fine American companies is there ANYONE out there who can assist with a method of using the Xebec/ST-225 combination as it should be? (I'll be danged if I can find the starting addresses in ROM for the Xebec formatting routines!) Incidentally, the obverse of Xebec is Western Digital who manufacture superb products and who are unfailingly courteous and helpful to their customers.
