[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Cross-compilers, etc. for 8088, 8086, etc. avail for 80[23]86?

craig@ncrcpx.UUCP (R. Craig Peterson) (08/11/87)

I'm considering purchasing a 386, or possibly a 286 machine to do some
development work on.

I currently have an NCR Tower XP with UNIX 5.2 and a 68010 on which
the code is running. I'm biting my lip and am considering porting
(can you say rewriting) the code to run under Mushdos, and the
occasional UNIX box.

I'd like to be able to have the code live under UNIX and start up a
Mushdos subtask to try and execute, or possibly link the .o's from the
80?86 development machine. Hopefully I can generate code that would
execute on the 8088's as there are muchos of them out there (kind of
like weeds eh?), as well as 80286's (If I get an 80386 machine).

Any suggestions to machines, UNIX ports, compilers, etc?

(As you may have gathered, after working with 68020's, etc. for
4 years I'm not excited about getting back into the intel
world!).
