There is no disk controller on the motherboard of the Compaq 386.  There is
a multifunction board taking up one of the slots which combines (I believe)
a disk controller suitable for two floppies and a 40MB hard disk with RS-232
and parallel printer interfaces.  If you want more than the 40MB disk, you
need to add an additional card which supports the ESDI interface used by the
80 and 130 MB disks.
